THE UNMET NEED - ACTION UPDATE
Members of the Allergy Alliance will meet with Health Minister Ann Keen on June 23 to discuss the patients' urgent need for provision of services across the whole spectrum of allergic illness which currently affects 1 in 3 of the population. Action Against Allergy was a founder member of the Allergy Alliance which comprises charities and organisations providing patient support.
This meeting is the result of correspondence between the Department of Health and AAA, fully reported in Allergy Newsletter No 91, Winter 2007 and Allergy Newsletter No.92, Spring 2008, with an update due to be published in Allergy Newsletter No 93, Summer 2008.
The Allergy Alliance is a member organisation of the National Allergy Strategy Group (NASG), an alliance of the professional organisation (British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology) and patient charities. Over the last five years the NASG has led the campaign for improved allergy services and was instrumental in the setting up of an All Party Parliamentary Group on Allergy, inaugurated in April this year.
AAA believes that the framework is now in place to take the action forward and that those who can make it happen are ready to listen. AAA will make sure that the patients' voice is heard.
